About Kian Ng

I turn emerging technology into experiences people want to use.

I'm Kian, a product designer working across AI, spatial computing, accessibility, and e-commerce. I'm an artist at heart who taught myself UX on the job, and I've spent my career making new technology easy to embrace. Today, that means bringing creative direction and hands-on design to generative AI in e-commerce.

I stay close to the craft and enjoy it: mentoring designers and working alongside engineers, product, and business partners, whether I'm exploring a new interaction model, taking a product 0-1, or untangling something ambiguous.

How I think about design

01

Make complexity feel simple

Emerging technology is rarely intuitive on its own. My job is to make it feel approachable, useful, and delightful.

02

Design beyond the screen

My roots in illustration, animation, and 3D shape how I think about movement, space, and the relationship between people and technology.

03

Learn by making

I taught myself UX by doing the work, and I still learn that way. The tools keep evolving. The thinking remains human.

A journey across disciplines

Visual Design

Traditional Roots

Foundations first. Training in graphic design, illustration, and animation gave me the foundation I have relied on in every discipline since.

Games

Delight by design. Working on Grey Goo and End of Nations taught me to design visually in ways that are delightful, entertaining, and engaging, inside complex interactive worlds.

Product Design

Microsoft Learning

Design at scale. Self-taught in UX, I learned on the job by designing for a learning platform and the web, making complex products clear and usable.

Microsoft Consulting

Listening closely. Consulting on Mixed Reality and UX taught me to lead creative direction, work closely with clients, and hear firsthand what customers needed.

Microsoft Mixed Reality Platform

Case study: Spatial Scene Reader

Closing the loop. After years of customer feedback from consulting, I moved to the platform side to help shape where Mixed Reality products went next. That work included a patented accessibility solution for low-vision users in immersive meetings.

Generative AI & E-commerce · Now

New tech into real products. I'm applying all of it to a scalable virtual try-on platform for online e-commerce, helping people discover and experience fashion in new ways while driving conversions.

Beyond The Pixels

When I'm not designing, I'm usually outdoors with a camera, waiting for the right bird and the right light. It has taught me patience and to notice small details. I'm also fascinated by aviation and military technology, where engineering and form have to work together.
